I found this article in my American Libraries Direct this week. It is about the importance of marginalia, which got me thinking about my own reading habits. Unless I am reading for a class I am taking, or for a class I am teaching, I rarely write in a book I am reading. I do read a lot of books from the library, but I do not even write in books I own. Does this make me a bad reader? Am I not thinking deeply enough about what I read? I think I interact quite a lot with what I read, I just do not like to stop and write, I want to just keep reading.
One of the reasons I started this blog was to write about what I am reading, this seems to take the place of marginalia, but maybe I will test myself and consciously make an effort to write in the next book I read. I will blog about the results.
